The Meteorological Agency of Japan has officially declared the flowering of the cherry blossom in Tokyo on March 14th, making it the earliest timing on record.
It is expected to take another week before the Someiyoshino cherry trees reach full bloom, but a few of the Shidarezakura (weeping cherry tree) seems to already be in peak viewing conditions. I visited a few in downtown Tokyo; the images were taken on March 15th.
